2.Cancel constant using the opposite integer
3.Balance it out by doing the same thing on the other side
4.Verify- solve to equality

Solving the question using Alge Tiles

Solving Two Step Algebra Equation
1. Isolate the variable (the unknown number in an algebra question)
2. Cancel the constant (the integer in an algebra question)
3. Balance by doing the same thing on one side and the other side of the equal sign
4. Simplify the variable
5. Repeat step #3
6. Verify your answer

Alec's Great Big Book of Integers

Chapter 1: grade 7 integer review

Zero Pair is 2 number that has same value but opposite signs and adds up to zero Eg. -2,2=0
"When subtracting that is isn't there use a zero pair"

-3 - (-7)=4
You can't take away -7 so we need to use zero pairs. Make a zero pair of -7. Now you have make a zero pair of -7 you can take away now the -7, so it lives you with +7. Then you subtract +7 to -3 and lives you +4
Image

-3 -7=-10
Make a zero pair 0f +7. Now you have a zero pair you can now take away +7 which lives you -7. Then combine -3 and -7 you're gonna get -10
Image

3 -7=-4
use a zero pair then take away + 7 and that will live you -7. Then subtract 3 from -7 and you'll get -4
Image

3 +7=10
Just add 3=7 and you'll get 10
Image

-3+7=4
Image

Chapter 2 Multiplying Integers
You can also use the rules of integer for this one

If the first number in the question is negative it's telling you to remove (any number) groups of (any number) E.g (-4)x(5) So remove 4 groups of positive 5 and you will have -20 for your answer
If the first number in the question is positive it's telling you to make (any number) groups of (any number) E.g (4)x(-5) So make 4 groups of negative 5 gives you -20 for your answer

(+2) x (+3)= 6
Make 2 groups of 3
Image

(+2) x (-3)=-6
Make 2 groups of -3
Image

(-2) x (+3)= -6
Remove 2 groups of +3
Image

(-2) x (-3)=6
Remove 3 groups of -3
Image

Rules of Integer
When you have an even amount of negative signs the answer will be positive including 0
When you have an odd amount of negative sign the answer will be negative

Chapter 3 Dividing Integers

Partitive division means spreading into parts or groups in a number line. Use when there are 2 negative integers or 2 positive integer

6/2=3
Image

-6/(-2)=3
Image

Quotative division means sharing.

(-6)/2=-3
How can you share -6 in 2 groups

Multiplicative Inverse means your solving a question in many ways

6/(-2)=-3
-3x-2=6
-2x-3=6

Sign rule for division is same thing as multiplication
If you have an even amount of negative in a division question the quotient will be positive including 0
If you have an odd amount of negative in a division question the answer will be negative

6/2=3
No negative that means the answer will be positive

-6/(-2)=3
2 negative = postive

(-6)/2=-3
1 negative = negative

6/(-2)=-3
1 negative = negative

Chapter 4 Order of Operations
(+5) x (-3) + (-6) /(+3)=
To solve this you need to know BEDMAS
B stands for Bracket
E stands for Exponent
D stands for division
M stands for multiplication
A stands for addition
S stands for subtraction
You need to work how the BEDMAS is wrote

Since there's a multiplication statement and a division statement I need to do that first so
(5)x(-3) = -15 (-6)/3= -2

15+(-2)=13

Alec's Winnipeg Harvest Scribe Post

I learned that brown rice is healthier than white rice.I also learned that some people who volunteered in Winnipeg Harvest also experienced of not having food and been help by Winnipeg Harvest. They want to return the favor by working in Winnipeg Harvest whenever they had a free time . Winnipeg Harvest helped people by giving them food to eat. Stores liked Superstore and Costco helps Winnipeg harvest to supply food by giving them canned goods, milk and juiced.The top ten items that is needed in Winnipeg Harvest are:
  1. Canned fish and poultry.
  2. Canned fruit and vegetables (packed in own juiced)
  3. Canned stew, chili, brown beans
  4. Peanut Butter (light)
  5. Baby Food
  6. Whole grain pasta/ Whole wheat pasta
  7. Rice -Brown, Converted, Parboiled
  8. Canned Spaghetti or Tomatoes
  9. Cereal - High fiber, non-sugar coated
  10. Canned soup - Lentil, Pea, Vegetable
When I volunteered I was the one who scoop the rice and put it in a plastic.

Alec's Surface Area Post

First find the radius
r=d/2
r=7/2
r=3.5

Since I have the diameter already I'm going to find the circumference
c=πd
c=3.14x7
c=21.98

Then find the area of the circle
a=πrr
a=3.14x3.5x3.5
a=38.47 square cm ( I round up to the nearest hundredths)

I now have the area of the 2 circle so I need to find next is the area of the square
a= lxw (l is the circumference)
a=21.98x7
a=153.86 square cm.

Add the area of the 2 circle and the rectangle
38.47+38.47+153.86= 230.8square cm
TSA= 230.8square cm

I'm gonna use another way to solve this question
(2πrr) + (2rπh)
(2x3.14x3x3) + (2x3x3.14x5)
=56.52 =94.2
Then add those 2 answer to get the TSA
56.52+94.2=150.72square cm.

(2πrr) + (2rπh)
(2x3.14x6.5x6.5)+(2x6.5x3.14x20)
=265.33 =816.4
265.33+816.4=1081.73square cm
TSA=1081.73square cm

r=d/2
r=20/2
r=10cm
(2πrr)+(2rπh)
(2x3.14x10x10)+(2x10x3.14x40)
628+2512
3140cm^2

r=d/2
r=30/2
r=15
(2πrr)+(2rπh)
(2x3.14x15x15)+(2x15x3.14.20)
1413+37680=39093
The fat one is the better deal because it has more capacity.

Final Percent Post

What is a Percent?
Percent is a number out of 100.
For example 50% is 50 out of 100.

Percent can be turned into a decimal and to a fraction.
For example 50% in decimal will be 0.5 and in fraction it's going to be 1/2.

If your turning a percent to a decimal, divide the percent by 100 and you'll get your answer

If your turning a percent to a fraction first find the decimal of the percent, second count how many digits you have after the decimal point then put zero's every digit you have after the decimal.
E.G 45%=0.45=45/100

Percents can be represent also by shading square from a hundred grid. To represent 100% in to a hundred grid color all of the squares. To represent a percent that is less than 1% shade part of one square then draw another square and divide that square whatever is the denominator given to you.

Percent have a strategies like halving, doubling, and dividing by ten if you are to ask use mental math.

Here is my video for the percent questions

Glenn's Pay it Forward

PART 1

Pay it Forward is when you help someone and you don't expect anything in return. When you give the cards to people they might do the same thing to other people and probably a chain reaction. In the movie I watched Pay it Forward, in the movie this little boy named Trevor tried helping three people. My act of kindness was giving out clothes and cards. (Part 2)

PART 2

I choose this first activity because my parents said that, giving out my small clothes to the salvation will help the kids/adults have some clothes. Ichoosed the second activity because my cousins that did this project gave me suggestions and they said they got a good mark. I helped the people without clothes. i did this on the Friday the 17th.

Part 3

My act of kindness went out really smoothly and great, when I gave out the cards and gave clothes it made me feel helpful. When Me (Glenn),Alec, Jayvee and Ryan gave out cards and clothes they all said," Oh why thank you. !" The next thing that happened was my group saying, "Pay it Forward !"... The peoples reaction was shocked and shy at the same time because they had a camera close to there faces. :)

PART 4

The idea of "Pay it Forward" is important because it can change the lives of people these days and it can make people be more nice. I think my act of interest did change some of the peoples interest because it can tell people that you are important in any way.

Alec's Pay It Forward Post

PART 1

Pay it Forward is when you help someone or something but you don't expect nothing in return. In the movie Pay It Forward Trevor has an assignment of what can you do to change the world. What Trevor planed is that he will help 3 people and those 3 people will help another 3 and on and on and on.

PART2

My Pay It Forward Act of Kindness is giving out clothes and merry Christmas cards.
I chose this activity because I figure it out that I have a lot of small clothes that I need to throw away and I think to myself that why not just donate this clothes for the children who doesn't have one. I also chose this activity because I think that we're the only group that give out Merry Christmas cards. We did this act of kindness last Friday December 17, 2010.

PART3

Our project went out well because we hand every single one of our cards and we also have collected many clothes to donate for children and adults who don't have one. It felt good when we hand out the cards because people from the Polo Park say Merry Christmas back and even greet us happy holidays too. Our group asked the people who we give cards from to pay it forward by giving it to someone that did something good to them or to a complete stranger.

PART4

I think the idea of paying it forward is important because it help's us to change other people's live and it make's us more nice. I think my act made a difference because it helps other people's live by having clothes to wear in a cold or hot day.

Alec Gargoles Percent Scribe post

12.

14.a) 200=100%
100=50%
20 =10%
2 = 1%
1 = 0.50%
I would colour half of a square

b) 400=100%
200=50%
40 =10%
4 = 1%
2 = 0.50%
1= 0.25%
2+1=3 0.50+0.25=0.75%
3=0.75% I would colour 3 squares
16 a) 17/1000=.017
.017X100%=1.7%
b) 1=10%
10x13=130%

Alec's Pythagoras Scribe Post

4. e. 30x30= 900mm
g. 50x50= 2500mm
f. 40x40= 1600mm
The area of e. is 900 square millimeters
The area of g. is 2500 square millimeters
The area of f. is 1600 square millimeters

9. a) 4x4=16 square cm.
2x2= 4 square cm.
3x3=9 square cm.

b) This is not a right triangle because 2 squared + 3squared doesn't equal 4 squared

12. a) a. squared + b. squared = c. squared
20 + 32 = 52 square cm.
b) a. squared + b. squared = c. squared
100 + 576 = 676 square mm.
c) c. squared - b squared = a. squared
90 - 25 = 65 square cm.
When the hypotenuse is there but one of the leg is missing, I figure it out that when you subtract the one of the legs to the hypotenuse, you will get the missing leg.

d) a. squared + b. squared = c. squared
12 + 12 = 24 square cm.

17. a) a. squared + b. squared = c. squared
21 squared + 28 squared = c .squared
441 + 784 = 1225 square cm.
b) a. squared + b. squared = c. squared
12 squared + 5 squared = c.squared
144 + 25 = 169 square cm.

Alec's Math Profile.

Hi, my name is Alec and I have grade eight math. I like math because it's my best subject. The best thing that I ever did in math class is playing a game like spinning a spinner to find the experimental probability.

Last year when I was a grade seven, the best unit I studied is integers because it's easy and I did good on quiz and test. The unit that made me struggle is fractions because I get sometimes confused on changing it to a mix number or to improper fraction. To not struggle much, I need to not talk much

I want to be a better math student. To do this I think I need to be a more responsible by asking questions to my classmates or teacher if I don't understand something. Also I need to pay more attention to what the teacher says and not to talk much about non related to the subject. This year I would like to learn about algebra.

In grade seven I learn how to create a blog. My favourite blog is about the best measure of central tendency. I picked this because i have a video and picture. I also picked this cause I think it's my best blog last year. The blogging help me become a better student because when I forgot the homework's page I can look at the blog and check it. This year I like to play a math game or a math problem in a computer because it helps me alot when I'm doing extra work.
