My answer:

SYK 249. Which box has the greater volume? Explain your reasoning.

My answer:

Pages 250-253 #'s 1, 4 and 7
1. Evan calculated the volume of a right cylinder. Charlotte calculated the volume of a right rectangular prism. Did either of them make an error in their solutions? Explain how you know.

My answer:

4. What is the volume of each right prism?
a) area of base = 12cm², height = 8cm3
b) area of base = 18cm², height = 4cm3
c) height = 9cm3, area of base = 14cm²
My answer:

7. What is the height of each of the following right rectangular prisms?
a) volume = 32cm3, area of base = 8cm²
b) volume = 35cm3, area of base = 5cm²
c) area of base = 8cm², volume = 36cm3

My answer:

Here is a video showing how to find the volume of a cylinder.

*Sorry it's so messy, I can't fix it and I
'm too lazy to do it all over again.

Cylinder Volume and Volume Problems

Jumbo Popcorn:
r = d/2
r = 20/2
r = 10cm^2

areaofthebase x height
v= π*r*r*h
v= (3.14 x 10 x 10) x 40
v= 12 560cm^3

Popcorn Lover's:
r = d/2
r = 30/2
r = 15cm^2
areaofthebase x height
v = π*r*r*h
v = (3.14 x 15 x 15) x 20
v = 14 130cm^3
Martha should get the "Popcorn Lover's" if she wants more popcorn because the container is bigger by 1 570.

r=d/2
r=1/2
r=0.5m^2
areaofthebase x height
v=π*r*r*h
v=(3.14*0.5*0.5)*10
v=7.85m^3

r=d/2
r=0.8/2
r=0.4m^2
areaofthebase x height
v=π*r*r*h
v=(3.14*0.4*0.4)*10
v=5.024m^3

7.85m^3*5.024m^3 = 2.862m^3

The volume required to make a concrete culvert is 2.862^3.

4. a) 20% of 60 is 12.

b) 250% of 400 is 1000.

c) 10 1/2 % of 100 is 10.5.

The price was reduced by $21.42.

^ I was going to do that one but I got confused and gave up. If anyone can help me with that question I would appreciate it. :)

So instead I did this one:

The area of Manitoba to the nearest square kilometre is 649 004 square km.

That's the end of my post. :) Leave comments please, to tell me what I did well and what I could improve on. :)

8. The original price of a jacket was $84.00. A store manager marked the price down by 25 1/2 %. By how much was the price reduced?
Math Info
*
Original Price = $84. 00
* Price down by 25 1/2%
* 25 1/2% = 25. 5%
Math Info
* 25. 5% = $21. 42
The price was reduced by $21. 42.
10. When water freezes, its volume increases by approximately 10%.
a) By how much does the volume of 750mL of water increase when it freezes?
Math Info
* 10% increase
Math Info
* 10% = 75mL
The volume increases by 75mL when it has an original volume of 750mL.
b) What is the volume of ice created?
Math Info
* 750mL = 100%
* 10% = 75mL
750mL + 75mL = 825mL
The volume is 825mL.
16. Josephine scored 12 baskets out of 30 shots in her first basketball game this year. Her scoring average was then 40%. The next game, she made ten shots and raised her scoring average for both games to 50%. How many of the ten shots in the second game were baskets?
Math Info
First Game
* Scored 12 baskets
* Took 30 shots
Second Game
* Took 10 shots
* __ shots out of 10 = baskets
* Average = 40%
All Games
* Scoring Averge = 50%
* Took 40 shots [30 + 10]
* 50% of 40 shots = 20 shots

Math Info
* 8 shots out of 10 = baskets
8/10 shots were baskets.
