Kevin's Big Book Of Intergers

Chapter 1:
The Grade 7 Math review

Integers are basically positives (+), negatives (-), and zeropairs.

What I remembered:
-Integers can be shown on a number line.
-The rhyme "When subtracting something that isn't, there use a zero pair"

The * question we have to do:
(-3)-(-7)=
-3-7=
\
3-7=
3+7=

Chapter 2 Multiplying Integers:
Examples:
(+2)x(+3)=6
It basically means you have 2 groups of 3.

2x(-3)=(-6)
When you have a negative on the right, it is just the same thing except the number is negative
(remember + and a - make a -, a - and a - make a +)

(-2)x(+3)=-6

-2x(-3)=6

Chapter 3:
Dividing Integers

Partitive Division:
Partitive division is how many groups of something are in something. We use a number line to show this.

Quotative Division:
This really just means "How do you share 6 with 2?"

The multiplicative inverse can helps us solve division questions because if we divide 6 by 2 we have 3. Now 3, we know that 3x2 equals 6 or 2x3 equals 6.

Chapter 4 :Order of Operations with Integers

(+5) x (-3) + (-6) ÷ (+3)=
[(+5) x (-3)] + [(-6) ÷ (+3)]=
(-15) + (-2) = -17

Use BEDMAS :)!

BEDMAS stands for Brackets,Exponents,Division, Multiplication,Addition,Subtraction.

1. First off, put square brackets that need to be done first (Example 4/2)

2. Solve what you bracketed then rewrite what you have.

3. Now solve the equation from left to right using BEDMAS! :^)

Kevin's Term 2 Reflection

Term 2 Reflection

I think this term was a really good one because it had most of my favourite subjects in math such as Percent, Surface Area, Volume.

What I did well was on the subject Volume, the reason I did good on it was that I really thought it was cool finding the space an object takes. For example to find the volume of a Rectangular prism the formula is V=L x W x H. The other formulas for finding the volume of triangles and cylinders are (for Triangles) B x H1/2 x H2. For the cylinders it is V = π x r x r x h then substitute.

The subject I had the most trouble on was the Surface Area nets. Nets were like the abomination of humanity for me. It was like tasting burnt marsh mellows for the first time, in overall I disliked it sooo much.

Now volume, I have to say I LOVE VOLUME!! Volume was like ice cream cake, it was so easy for me because it was formulas. Formulas are like cookies and milk plain and simple. There is so many things I remember for example the formula for finding volume a circle is V= PIxRxR. Another formula I remember is the formula of a rectangular prism which is V=LxWxH.

Volume of he cylindrical elements are as follows (If I wrong please correct me!):
Zarya FGB= 166.27m^3
Unity Node = 91.35m^3
Zvezda service module = 181.40m^3
Z1 Struss = 67.85m^3
P6 Truss Solar Array = 307895.18m^3
Destiny = 123.37m^3

A) P6 Truss Solar Array
B) Height = 117.8m
Radius = 16.05m

Richard's Pay it Forward

Part 1

What i think paying it forward means is doing an act of kindness knowing that you wouldn't . Doing an act of kindness for someone can make you the next one to be treated good. Doing act of kindness for someone else will know how to do something good for someone else so then bring them to paying it forward.

Part 2

My groups way of paying it forward was to donate and volenteer at the Winnipeg Harvest and Write letters to soldiers, but we couldn't go to Winnipeg Harvest because they didn't call us, telling my group when we were allowed to go there. So we just wrote letters to soldiers in Afganistan. We did an act of kindness for someone on Dec 17th

Part 3

Our plan worked out. Everyone in the group there jobs and helped each other out. I felt good that i wrote letters to soldiers to support them. We didn't ask soldiers to pay it forward because the soldiers already did.

Part 4

The reason for paying it forward is important because it makes everyone happy and makes some people do good things to other people which made people to pay it forward. My group all think our plan worked because it showed them how to do something good to someone.

Kevin's Pay It Forward

Pay it forward is a concept where one person ( I'll call him person A) helps another person (person B). In return for helping person B has to help others. Another way of "Paying it forward" is a group of people help other handful of people. An example of paying it forward would be when a person helps another person carry there groceries.

My pay it forward act of kindness was that me and a group of friends (Nils, Kyle Cass, Tyler, and I) were writing letters to Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. We chose this activity because we thought it would be nice to send letters to soldiers. Al
so soldiers get to see people really do care about them. We did our act of kindness on the 18th of December.

Here is proof of the act of kindness,

I think our act of kindness went well, I think they got the letters already. I felt really good about sending letters, it was also really fun talking about what the soldiers would think. I did not as the person to pay it forward because soldiers pay it forward with there own lives!

The idea of paying it forward is really important because if you thought about it, "Who would help the poor?" if none of us didn't want to give some of them money most of the would die. I do think our act of kindness had made of difference for the soldiers. I think it helped them think that this country is worth protecting.

Kevin's Homework Book Scribe Post

My pages were 36 to 39, I only did the evens.

Page 36

2. Shade hundred grids to represent each percent.
A)This i
s 3%

B)This is 46%

C)This is 97%

4.Show as repeating decimals.
A) 0.3333333 = 0.3 (with the bar on top, I can't seem to put it on top.)

B)0.4545454 = 0.45

C)0.2727272 = 0.27

6. Estimate each percent of a number.
I don't know how to do this so yea .
-. , if you guys could put what you did in the comment section that would be greatly appreciated.

Pg 38 + 39

2. To represent a fractional percent greater than 1%, shade part of one square on a hundred grid.

4. To represent a fractional percent between 0% and 1%, shade squares from a hundred grid to show the whole numb
er and part of one square to show the fraction.

6. What percent is represented by each diagram if a completely shaded grid represents 100%.

A)145 and seven eights

B) 156%

C)seven twelfths

8. Represent the percent in each statement on a grid provided.

A) A tax is 6 and one half percent.

Mt. Everest is about 146% the height of Mt. Logan.

Well, that's the end of my scribe post.

Kevin's Square Root Scribe Post

Show you know:
a) Identify a whole number with a square root between 8 and 9.
b) How many whole numbers can you find that have a square root between 8 and 9? show you work.

a) First I changed the number 8 to 64 (8x8) and 9 to 81 (9x9).

64 ? 81

64 73 81

b) There are 16 whole numbers I found.

65 = 8.0

66 = 8.12

67 = 8.18

68 = 8.24

69 = 8.30

70 = 8.36

71 = 8.42

72 = 8.48

73 = 8.54

74 = 8.60

75 = 8.66

76 = 8.71

77 = 8.77

78 = 8.83

79 = 8.88

80 = 8.94

I used perfect squares to find these.

P.s I'm not sure if I'm right so can you guys help me out? Just post your answers at the comment section and I'll take a look at them.

Kevin's Sesame Street Video Post

The people in my group were Richard, Tyler, and me.

Rate - Compares two quantities measured in different units.
Example - 72 beats per minute or 75 beats/min is a rate.

Ratio - Part to Part Ratio compares different parts of the group to each other.
Example - A's to B's which is 3 to 4

Proportional Reasoning - A relation ship the says that two ratios or two rates are equal.
Example - How much will 12 erasers cost if 3 erasers cost 75 cents?

So 12 eraser cost 300 cents or $ 3.00.

Sadly, Neither me, Richard , or Tyler could find the video on YouTube.

So here's the link

Now here's the fun part :P, a video of me and Tyler's horrible acting.

Kevin's Math Profile

Hi, my name is Kevin Montalbo and I'm a grade 8 math student. Some people may ask me "Do I like math?" an answer to that would be sometimes because I may struggle in one part but i may have a lot easier time with others. One of the few things i like about math would be multiplication. In my opinion I really like multiplying and it's fun sometimes. But when I was younger I really hated multiplying I didn't even know my 3x tables! That's my reason to the question.

Last year I really liked studying algebraic equations, Pie formula's, and some fraction things. The algebraic equations were much more easier to me then the other units because I was really interested with the equations for example x2=10. It took me awhile to figure it out the first time but when time went on I started to understand these equations and started answering them easily. The unit that made me struggle SO HARD was the circle unit. And my gosh did i do really bad on it. We need lots of materials to do this like a geometry set and some other things. I could come prepared and be more attentive.

What i will do to be a successful math student is to actually study, maybe ask for some help, but most importantly do my homework. What i really want to do this year is to learn more about the algebraic equations and more about the pie formulas.

Last year I didn't do any blogging (i didn't really like it). But even so i wish to do more blogging this year and one thing I want to do on the blog is trying to blog what i learned about. I hope i do have fun with blogging.
