If you can't really see that, the question states.
A floor mat for gymnastics is a square with a side length of 14. What is the area of the floor mat in square meters?
One of the methods that you can use to find this problem out is:
Drawing it.



So, It said a side length is 14, right.
So we would show it like this:

This is the formula to find the area

If you can not read that, or unable to read that.
The formula is:
SxS=A
14x14=196
196=Area

A=Area.
S=Side.

So the answer to question 18. -
A floor mat for gymnastics is a square with a side length of 14. What is the area of the floor mat in square meters?

is - 196 metres squared.


Question 20:
If you don't like how it says. It states:

Adam’s uncle has instructions for building
a shed. One page of the instructions,
shown below, is not very clear.

a) What is the area of the rectangle?
b) What is the side length of the square?


The formula to get the area is :

36=A

A=Area
S=Side.

I looked and looked and asked many questions, but I do not know how to get the dimensions, I am very sorry about this, but I can not find it anywhere, I am very very sorry.

I chose number 24 and 25.

24. The first three triangular numbers are 1, 3 and 6

a) What are the next three triangular numbers?
The next three triangular numbers are 10, 15 and 21.

b) Add together any two consecutive triangular numbers. What do you notice about the sums?
I noticed that the sums are all perfect squares.


25. A square digital photo on the computer has an area of 144cm2.


a) What is the side length of the photo?
The side length is 12cm because the square root of 144 is 12.


b) The photo is enlarged so that the side length is now 36cm. What is the area of the enlarged photo?
The area is now 1296cm2 because 36x36=1296cm2

c) How many times as large as the original is the enlarged area?
The enlarged area is 9 times as large because 144/1296=9 (There is more than method to find this answer, I use division.

d) How many times as large as the original is the enlarged side length?
The enlarged length is 3 times as large because 36/12=3.

e) Use what you know about the square root of a perfect square to identify the relationship between the numbers in parts c) and d).
Question d) is the side and question c) is the area. When you square the side you get the area. So 3x3=9 .

square root of 196 = 14 (Sorry, I don't know how to put the square root sign)
The side length is 14cm.

3. The factors of 36 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 36. Use words and/or diagrams to explain how you know which factor is the square root of 36.
My answer: The factor which is the square root of 36 is 6, because 6x6 = 36, or 6 multiplied by itself equals 36.
If you want, you could use prime factorization to find the answer.

I found this video about prime factorization. Hope it helps anyone who was confused about it. I know it helped me. :)

Prime Factorization is also a way
to find out if a square is perfect or not.





Square root is the inverse (opposite) of squaring, for example:
5² = 5x5 or 25
√25 is 5 times itself has a product of 25
5x5=21 || √25=5

√3: 1 2/3
√4: 1 3/3 = 2
√5: 2 1/5
√6: 2 2/5
√7: 2 3/5
√8: 2 4/5

See any patterns? The denominator is how many spaces are in between the 2 closest perfect squares. The numerator is how many spaces the square root number took going to the left.

Today's Homework
(This part gets confusing but I'll try to explain it as good as I can)
- make another number line with 1 to 25 square root numbers with one and a half (1 1/2) intervals
- write the fraction x fraction = 1-25
- on the bottom, write the decimal that is almost equal to 1, 2, 3, ... 25
- lastly highlight or box the perfect square numbers
* Don't forget to use ' \approx \!\, ' the almost equal symbol.

Square Numbers and Square Roots .

Focus on
:
  • Determine the square of a whole number
  • Determine the square root of a perfect square
A square number is the product of the same two numbers.
3 x 3 = 9 .
9 is the square number :)

A square number is also known as a perfect square. A number that is not a perfect square is called a non perfect square .

Perfect Square Chart Example :

Make sure you go all the way up to 30.

The long white sheet :
  • Use your ruler to make 25 intervals 1 and half cms away from each other .
  • Use your ' Perfect Square Charts ' to make the markings .
