Jayvee's Math Profile

Hi, My name is Jayvee and I'm a grade 8 math student. If someone asked me if I like math, I would say of course. I like math because it's easy for me. All you have to do is memorize formulas and you'll do good on test and quizes. I remembered a time in grade 3 about decimals when we played games using decimals.

When I was in grade 7, The best unit I studied is integers because it's easy and I did good on test and quizes. The unit that made me struggle is algebra. I always get confused with the formulas. I will ask more often for help so I won't struggle to much this year.

To be a successful math student, I need to be a more active in class and responsible by asking questions to my teacher if I don't understand something. This year, I would like to learn more about algebra and things that should be learned in future grades.

Last year, I learned how to make a blog and this blog is about Areas. I think this is one of my favorites because I had a lot of pictures. Blogging helps me to remember if I forget math homework pages then I'll just check it on the blog. I want to do more blog this year so I can do scribes better.

Alec's Math Profile.

Hi, my name is Alec and I have grade eight math. I like math because it's my best subject. The best thing that I ever did in math class is playing a game like spinning a spinner to find the experimental probability.

Last year when I was a grade seven, the best unit I studied is integers because it's easy and I did good on quiz and test. The unit that made me struggle is fractions because I get sometimes confused on changing it to a mix number or to improper fraction. To not struggle much, I need to not talk much

I want to be a better math student. To do this I think I need to be a more responsible by asking questions to my classmates or teacher if I don't understand something. Also I need to pay more attention to what the teacher says and not to talk much about non related to the subject. This year I would like to learn about algebra.

In grade seven I learn how to create a blog. My favourite blog is about the best measure of central tendency. I picked this because i have a video and picture. I also picked this cause I think it's my best blog last year. The blogging help me become a better student because when I forgot the homework's page I can look at the blog and check it. This year I like to play a math game or a math problem in a computer because it helps me alot when I'm doing extra work.

Nikki Shannon's Math Profile

Hello my name is Nikki Shannon. I am currently in grade 8 and I am not maths #1 fan. If i had a choice to do math I would probably say no. I don't really know what was the best thing I did in math class.

The thing I was best at in grade 7 was probability. I thought it was the easiest of all units. The unit that i struggled with was integers. It confused me with the minus and plus adding and subtracting with the integers.

Now that i made it to grade 8, i would like to learn more algebra. I know a little about it and I want to learn more.Another thing I am looking forward to learn is a bit more of fractions.

Well... I did comment on most of the blogs but I regret never creating a post. I was assigned to do it a couple of times but I really didn't understand it.

Tyler's Sesame Street Video Post

Tyler, Richard, Kevin

Proportinal reasoning-A relationship that shows two ratios or two rates are equal.
Example-How much will 12 erasers cost if 3 erasers cost $0.75?
Multiply 3 by 4 to get 12 so if u multiply 75 by 4 you get $3.00.

Rates-compares 2 quantities measured in different units.

Two Term- Compares 2 quantities.
Example. A:B

Three Term-Compares three quantities.
Example. A:B:C

Part to Part- Compares 2 parts of a whole.
Example. 2:3 23233

Part to Whole- Compares 1 part to a whole.
Example. 2:5 22333

Rates-Comapares 2 different quantities.

Unit Rate- When the second term is 1.
Example. 27km/Hr

Unit Price-Is used when shopping.
Example. $1.35/100g

Sorry I couldn't find this video on youtube so here is the link.

It shows Bert doing a magnet trick to Ernie.

I couldn't embed my video for some reason so I'll just use a link.

Lizelle's Math Profile.

Hello, my name is Lizelle Scott. I am in grade 8 math. If someone asked me if I liked math, I would say yes or no. I would say either or because I'm not the best in it, nor the worst in it. One of the things that I like about math is because of solving problems.

In grade 7, I had alot of math fun with my math teacher. One of the things that I will always remember me doing is finding a range, mean, and also the median for a number. One of the things that I really struggled in was the unit about intergers. They got me really confused, and I just couldn't understand it alot.

To make myself a succesful grade 8 student, I am hoping that I will ask more questions if I do not understand. I hope I am not going to keep the answer inside of me, and raise up my hand more if I get the answer right or wrong so I can learn from my mistakes.

Last year, I did alot of blogs. One of the blogs that I did was about circle graphs. The link to the one of the blogs that I did is this: Circle Graphs . One of the thing that I want to do better this year is to make more blogs.

Ishaka Math Profile

I`m Ishaka a grade 8 math student and I can like and dislike math at different times. The times I like math are when It's easy to understand what's happening, and what we're doing. I also like when we do different math games. In class we learned a lot of stuff like probability, integers, adding fractions, converting decimals into precents, graphs, mean, median, mode and more.

My favourite unit I learned about in grade 7 was integers, because it was really easy to understand. I struggled a lot on fractions, because it just really confused me. This year, I'm gonna try to focus on fractions, and get the hang of it.

So this year, for grade 8 I really want to do better than grade 7, and improve in my grades. I don't want to procrastinate at all. I want to do well on tests and study harder ! This year, I just want to learn new things to get ready for grade 9 .

This is my only blog but I think Its good because, this was my only post to the blog, and because my classmates gave me feedback, and I improved throughout the year . Blogging for math class, helped me because when my classmates told me what I did good and what I could've done to make a better blog. I want to do well in blogging this year.

Josell's Math Profile

I`m Josell/Carl and I sometimes like or dislike math at different times. The times I like math are when I understand what's happening, and what we're doing. I also like when we do different math activities. In class we learned a lot that I never knew before such as, adding fractions and using decimals. The assignments I liked were doing the work on the textbooks, because it helps me excerise my brain for the next math lessons.

My favourite unit I learned about in grade 7 was using decimals, because it was hard for me to understand, and I love taking challenges. Everything was new to me, I never really used decimals in math in my past grades. This year, I'm gonna focus more on adding fractions because I had lots of difficulties on that subject.

So this year, for grade 8 I really want to do better than grade 7, and improve in my grades. I don't want to procrastinate at all. I want to do way better than my tests last year and hopefully bump up my grades a bit.

I did a blog before but I can't find the link, it was my first post. I liked how my classmates gave me good feedback and some mistakes which really helped me. I want to do well in blogging this year, because last year I only did 1.

Jocelle's Math Profile

Hi, my name is Jocelle . I am a math student in grade 8. If someone ask me if I liked math, I would say either yes or no, because math isn't my best subject but i like learning new stuff in math. Something that I struggle in is solving different kinds of math problems. I am not the best in math but i love learning new things and working hard as I can to improve it. I remember when i was in grade 2 and we had a quiz about multiplications and fractions. I was counting the cookies and breaking them into fractions for me and my partner, so then i got hungry while i was counting and I started eating it . After I was full, the teacher told us that we were the only one that got the right answer. That was really really fun!

Last year in grade 7, the best units that I studied were integers, range, mean, median, outlier, mode, and some of the formulas. I think i did some of them well because i find it easy to do when we were doing it in class and when i started reviewing them for math exam. Solving two-step algebraic Equations made me struggle a bit . I think i could improve my learning skills in math by reviewing what I did each day and ask other people who knows how to to do it.

I would try to redo the things that i did or review what we did from last week to today after I'm done doing my homeworks and try to participate more in class this year to be a successful math student. I would like to learn more about math and re reading my notes so its always in my head.

My blogging experiences helped me because I had to type what we wrote and learned while reading it, and also reviewing my notes that we just did. This year, I would like to continue making posts for the blog.

Errol's Math Profile

Hello, my name is Errol. I am in grade 8 math. If someone were to ask me if I liked math I would say yes. I like math because I like solving problems. I did a lot of solving problems in grade 5 and 6. We would have to solve the problem and chart or graph it on paper. I had a lot of fun doing that.

In grade 7 I really liked doing all the fractions we did. We did adding fractions, subtracting fractions, finding a common denominator. I did well in this unit because it was really easy. I didn't really do well with rotating. It was one of the parts in my test that I always got wrong. This year I'll try not to struggle by reviewing my notes every once in awhile because I never did it last year.

In grade 8 I will be a better student by listening and finishing my homework. This year I want to learn about algebra.

Last year I did the blog but only once. This blog was about Creating Circle Graphs. It made me a better student because it made me think about the subject a lot more. This year I want to do a bit more blogging.

Paulo's Math Profile

My name is Paulo, and I'm in grade 8 math. If your asking me if I like math last year i will definitely say no. The best thing we did in grade 7 is the probability game. When we have a spinner and we will guess what color it will land in.

My favorite unit in grade 7 was finding the range, mean, outlier, median. I liked this because it was easy and it was fun to do it. The unit I struggled in was in algebra because it was really hard for me to understand it. What I would do to not struggle this year is to study hard for quizzes and test and ask the teacher for help when i don't get the question.

To make myself a successful grade 8 math student is to listen more and put my hands up more if I have a question or a answer for the teacher. If I have a test to study for I would try to have a habit of writing on my agenda because sometimes I forget there's a test the next day.

Last year, I did one blog and I think i did a good job when I did this blog. When I did this blog I was so nervous because I thought I would mess up. But when I finish it was pretty fun and easy for me to do.

Cathlene's Math Profile

Hello, My name is Cathlene, and I am in Grade 8. If someone asked me "Do you like Math", I would have to say no I do not, because math is one of my weakest subjects in school and because I do not understand most of the units in math. The best thing I ever did in Math Class was grade 6 math because the teacher made it fun for us to learn math, we would play math games that have to do with the unit we where learning about and at the same time we where having fun.

In grade 7 math I think the best unit we studied was Integers and a bit of Coordinate Grid's because for me it was the easiest unit to learn. The unit that made me struggle was Fractions, Decimals, Percent, Probability, Circles, and bit more, it made me struggle because in the beginning it didn't make sense and by the end of the unit it made more sense but then we have to move on to a different unit.

For me to be successful in Grade 8 math I think I would try to understand the subject and start reading my notes and try to do extra math homework if I have time. There is nothing I would really like to learn this year only the things that you are planning for us to learn this year.

I did a few blogs last year and the blog I think I did well in was this blog:http://room43math09.blogspot.com/2010/05/find-mean-median-mode-range-and.html
Blogging REALLY helped me learn the units in math better because you read it in your note and type it down, two things that help me study and remember and at the same time it made math a bit more fun. In grade 8 math I would like to continue blogging again so it could help me in the math units we will be learning.

Roemer's Math Profile.

Hello, my name is Roemer, and I'm in grade 8 math.I really like math, but some better than others. I really disliked the Area unit.I found it confusing, and very hard.I've never done that in the past,so it was probably too new for me.But wih studying,I did just fine.

In Grade 7,the units I enjoyed learning about was fractions. We did many activities, like spinning a spinner to see if it would land on yellow, green, red,or blue because each has 1/4 of a chance of the spinner landing on it. I really enjoyed that unit because I've done this many times before, and it was easy to get throught it.

This year I want to be a better math student. I can do this by answering questions and always pay attention in class. I can ask my friends or teacher for help when needed, and finish my assignments on time.I could also review my notes more to keep them in my mind incase of a test. I can't think of anything I want to learn, maybe how to do more-than-one-step algebra equations. I would be happy to learn new things that will help my math knowledge in the future.

I've done Math blogs in the past.Similar to this one right here. :) .I did these last year and enjoyed doing it.It was very fund to mess around with the COLORS and SIZE.I also did other stuff like making them look like this. I hope we do some more blog posts like this in the near future.

Kristel's Math Profile

My name is Kristel, I am in grade 8 math. If someone were to ask me if I liked math I would say that I dislike it a lot. I never liked it because out of all my subjects, math was the hardest for me to do. The best thing I ever did in a math class was learn how to subtract. It was really fun because we used cookies to help us and we got to eat them after!

My favourite thing to do in grade 7 math was to find the range, outlier, mean, median, and mode in a data set. I think I liked it best because it's the one I understand the most so it was the easiest for me to do. A unit that made me struggle was solving two- step algebraic questions because even if the teacher would explain to me many times I still couldn't get a head start. Something I can do this year that'll help me not struggle is to ask other people than the teacher and to practice practice practice.

To make me a successful math student in grade 8 I will try to participate more in the discussions I have by putting my hand up more. Also I would also like to get in the habit to always read my math notes so it's always in my head. There's nothing specific I would like to learn but I just want to be ready for the future.

Last year, I blogged several times but this is my favourite blog. Blogging helped me become a better student because once I did one blog I thought it was really fun. So, I decided to do it more which made me more invloved in what was going on. This year, I want to continue blogging posts.

Victoria's Math Profile

Hello, my name is Victoria. I am a math student in grade 8. If someone asked me if i liked math would say yes but, i struggle with it. I am not the greatest math student but i like to play with numbers and integers. I remember a time in grade 6 when the whole class had to work together and figure out a question, it was so much fun ! That was an activity that i enjoyed allot.

In in grade 7 i did really good at integers and how you figured them out. Because i have never did stuff like that before. I did well in this unit because after talking to Mr. Isfeld about the integers i really under stood them. Like the mean, median, mode, range, outlier. for this year i could try to understand the numbers that we use and how to use them in math terms.

For grade 8 i will listen and try my hardest to get the answer my self without help from friends and teachers to be successful. I want to learn about integers this year again and about multiplication, and division because i am not to great at that.

Last year i did i think only post 2 blogs. One was about i think algebra and the second one was about what we did for the whole year. My favorite post that i did was telling everyone what we did throught the whole school year on the last of school because i used allot of colors and pictures. Blogging helped me become a better student because i got to go over the work that we did so i had a second look. For grade 8 i want to blog more posts then i did last year in math class.

Karen's Math Profile

Hi my name is Karen, I'm a math student in grade 8. If you were to ask me if I like math, I would say yes and no. I like some of the math we do in class, but I also dislike some of the math work. Sometimes I understand my math but I can't write it properly or explain it right. I learn best when I work in groups, I like to see what other people think and compare my math to their math.

In grade 7 last year in I liked many things, most were the "bedmass," and the means, median, mode, range and outliers. The bedmass method was a bit tricky at times, but I liked how it makes my math stronger, it was a lot of fun when the easy questions came in. For the means, medians and stuff, I really liked them because they were easy and I already knew them before we learned it because my sister taught me. The unit that made me struggle the most was the integers unit, I tried to understand it but I didn't have enough focus. I am able to do it but only really, really easy questions. For this year I could work harder and focus more and not put things aside in able for me not to struggle.

This year for grade 8, I will try to work harder and not put things aside, but I said that for grade 6 and it didn't really happen for grade 7. I guess I'll try some more this year, I will also ask for help if needed. This year I don't have a specific math thing I want to learn, but I'm ready for more math and some old math too.

Last year, for grade 7 my favourite blog was the Circles blog. I honestly only like it because last year I only did 2 blog posts and "Circles" was way neater and longer than my other one. That post had parts and meanings of cirlces and what was for homework. When I made that blog it helped me understand more about diameters and radius. For grade 8 I hope to try and make more blogs so I understand more and get more marks.

Hanna's Math Profile

Hello, my name is Hanna and I'm a grade 8 math student at Sargent Park School. If someone asked me whether or not I like math, I would say that it depends. That's because there are many things that I like about math but also much that I dislike. Like, for example, I really like algebra but when it comes to division...I'm just not very good. To me, Math hasn't been much of an exciting subject. No matter how much I think, I can't seem to recall something that I really looked forward to. The only thing that I can actually remember right now that I kind of anticipated was when we had to cut open an orange for math related purposes. I had thought that it would've been quite fun but it ended up as a big letdown.

Last year, in grade 7, the unit that I enjoyed most was algebra. Though I'm not 100% sure if this unit was what I was best at, to me, it certainly was the most fun out of all of them! In my opinion, this unit was actually quite easy and was pretty simple too but, to be honest, it wasn't like this from the start. When my class first started this unit, I had an extremely difficult time understanding algebra but, as time went by and more explaining was done by the teacher, algebra gradually became easy. Hopefully, the same thing happens for my most disliked unit: dividing decimals. I HATE dividing decimals! Even before they added the decimals, I had been extremely awful at this. Yes, I admit that calculators were allowed to solve the questions but, what if, at some point in my life, I had to divide decimals and wasnt able to access a calculator? What a nightmare! Hopefully, I'll be able to improve at division by the time I become old.

Now that I'm in grade 8, I'm going to finish all my home work and ask questions whenever I'm not sure about something. I'll also pay attntion in class though that shouldn't be hard at all. Last year, I lost tons of marks during term 2 all because I hadn't completed all of my assignment so I want to change that this year. There isn't much that I want to learn this year other than algebra because, if I hadn't already mentioned, I LIKE algebra. I'm also pretty sure that we'll all be learning about the pythagorean theory this year but I'm not really interested in that. As long as I'm learning about math, I'm fine with it I guess.

In grade 7, I was taught how to blog on Blogger and had made a total of 2 posts in all. My first post is quite simple and is about Number of the Day and the textbook homework we had that day. The second post that I had created was about a homework package that was to be handed in and an exam review. I think that I had done a better job on the second post than the first. That's probably because I had done it before so I had a bit of experience. The blog has, in my opinion, helped me alot especially when it came to homework and studying for tests. By using the blog, I was able to catch up with my work by completing assignments. Hopefully, this blog will help me as much as it did last year!

Olivia's Math Profile

Hello, my name is Olivia, and I am in grade 8 math. If someone asked me if I liked math, I would have to tell them that I did, except for a few units that I don't find as interesting to learn about, or that I find more difficult than the others. Example, I don't really like the unit on Cartesian Planes, why? Well, I personally don't really like all the drawing that normally comes with that unit. I remember in Grade 6 we were doing a unit on fractions and we used play doh to make shapes and divide them into equal pieces. It was fun to play with the play doh, it reminded us of nursery and kindergarten!

In Grade 7 the units I enjoyed learning about were fractions and measures of central tendency. I liked these units because fractions I found easy to understand and follow, and I found it fun and easy to learn about the measures of central tendency, like the mean, median, and mode, also the range and outliers. I had a bit of a hard time with probabilty because I didn't like to make the charts and tree diagrams, it took some time and I felt lazy to write so much, but I made them anyway. To do better in class, I would like to be less lazy to draw tree diagrams and I could study or review my notes more often.

This year I want to be a good math student. I can achieve this by answering questions and always paying attention in class. I can ask my classmates or teacher for help if I need it, and complete and hand in given work on time. Also I could review my notes more often to keep them in my mind. There isn't anything I want to learn this year in particular, maybe how to do more-than-one-step algebra equations. I would be happy to learn new things that broaden my math knowledge and help me in the future with higher classes and everyday life.

Last year we did blogs that included the day's notes. One post that I made last year was about
estimating decimals with multiplication. I liked this post because I included all the notes for that day, added pictures, a video and colour to highlight the important words. Also people gave me good comments to help me improve my posts. Blogging helped me become a better student because I had to rewrite the days work on the blog and it helped the information to sink in to my mind, plus it helps other students to understand the work. I think it would be fun to play some math related games on the computer, it would help us practice our skills and it would be a fun way to learn, I hope we do some of that this year, also I want to continue with blogging.

Sam's Math Profile

Hi, I'm Sam and I'm in grade 8. When people ask me if I like math I always say I like it but I'm not that good at it because math doesn't run in the family. My parents always tell me how much they struggled in math. I am starting to like it more and more though. In math class the best thing I have ever done is when I was in grade 2 and Mrs. Collins threw this ball with numbers on it and whichever numbers your thumbs landed on you had to add, subtract, or multiply. I liked doing this because it was active. We always fought over the ball and it was a method of learning that I liked.
In grade 7 I really liked the probability unit because I realized in multiple choice tests I had a one in four chance of getting the answer right (lol). I think I did well because it applied to everyday life. I think the fraction unit was the hardest for me to understand because it was hard for me to change fractions to decimals and stuff like that. This year I will try to pay more attention and try as hard as I can to read the questions over to myself.

This year I will study a while ahead of time and I will not procrastinate on my homework. If I'm not understanding something that we're talking about in class I will ask questions about it until I actually do understand it. This year I want to learn whatever the unit we are doing to the full extent.

I don't remember the favorite post that I created last year because that was definitly a while ago. I think blogging helped me become a better student because either if I was sick or I had some kind of game or appointment I could just check the blog. This year I would like to improve the speed of my typing, visit any sites that would improve my math skills wether its division or fractions, and talk to people on the chat box about math. I am exited to make that video also.

Justin's Math Profile

Hi my name is Justin and I like math sometimes. The best thing I did in math was getting jelly beans for getting a question right in grade seven. I liked this because you get jelly beans. The best unit I studied in grade seven was fractions. The unit that made me struggle the most was adding and subtracting integers. This year I can study the things I dont get so I know what to do. This year is grade eight and I can be succesful by trying my best. This yearI want to learn the knowledge I need to know to keep passing and passing.

Glenn's Math Profile

Hello, my name is Glenn Magnaye and I am in grade 8. I like math alot because I enjoy solving fractions, decimals, multiplication, and many more. The one thing I hate about math is that I never get 100% or do a very good job . When Iwas in kindergarden we did math in a super duper different way. We used cubes and erasers, to add and subtract. Once in kindergarden my teacher told me to go with her to do a test. When I sat down I saw dinosaur erasers, I got so scared so I ran back into the room and maybe thats why I dont like math . JUST KIDDING

In grade seven there were alot of math subjects but my favorite was integers . I like integers because theres only a few steps to learn . for example negatives and positives etc. The subjest in math that im not good at is fractions because there are alot of ways to express fractions like mixed and proper. The SUPER DUPER hardest fraction is adding unlike denominators, but I know we have to use math in everything, so we must learn it well .

This year I will try to be a good student by not being lazy, not being late, and listen to the teacher. To achieve these goals is to not be fooling around when the teacher is talking, sit up , and go to class straight . The last thing I want to improve is to make my grades higher and do good on my tests . This year I want to learn the things I will be learning in grade 9 and to learn more about fractions.

In grade 7 my favorite blogs was . THIS CLICK ON IT ! THIS WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY ! I know its not perfect, but I will try doing a better job by looking at the comments . In this post I didn't have a video so my next blog I'll try to put one in . The reason why we make blogs so we can help our classmates who didn't attend the class and when we have our exams we can always check for help . I think by doing computer work it makes it more easy . Last year we did an activity on the computer and it was FUN .
