Lara's Algebra Post

Algebra: Writing a mathematical equation using a Letter.

Example : x + 4 = 5

Variable - a letter

that represents

a number in an algebraic equation or expression
Constant - the integer in an algebraic expression or equation

Expression - pattern, many

answers ex. 5x, 5x5

Equation - only has one answer, has an equal sign ex. 5x=25, 5x5=25

Solving an Algebraic equation.

Steps:

1. Isolate the variable.

2. Cancel using the opposite of

the number.

3. Constant is cancelled with the zero pair.

4. Balance, do the same

operation on the other side of the = sign.

5. Verify to check

Lara's term 2 Reflection

What did you do well in this term?
In term 2, I did really well on finding Surface Area in shapes using the net method that Mr.Harbeck showed us. In term 2 I also did well on finding volume in Rectangular prisms, Cubes and Cylinders.
What did you struggle on?
In term 2 I struggled on a few things. Some things that I struggled on were finding the volume of a triangular prism, Due to the confusing formula. Also I struggled on commenting on the blog.
How will you do better next term?
Next term, I will try to do better on my blogging by commenting more often on blog post. Also next term I will concentrate more in class and try to put my hand up to answer a few questions.
What did you learn about percent, surface area & volume.
In term 2 I learned many things about percents, surface area and volume of different shapes. In percent I learned that every percentage is out of 100, And to find a percent you have to use division. In surface area,I learned that every shape has an outline of it, For example, a cylinder is made of a rectangle and 2 squares. In Volume I learned that every shape has a certain amout of volume within the shape, no matter what size it is, there’s always a volume within the shape.

Square Units

What you have to have on your green fold-able .
On one side .
Rectangular Prism : one cube with a net and a rectangle with a net .
Triangular Prism : 3 different triangles with one net for each one .
Opposite sid

Rectangular Prism

  • all rectangular prisms have 6 faces
  • opposite sides of each face are equal
  • There are 3 views , TOP , FRONT and SIDE

Lara's Great Big Book Of Integers

Chapter 1 Grade 7 Integer Review
  • Positive and Negative. When they are combined it makes a zero pair
  • Number lines can be used
  • "When subtracting something that isn't there, use a zero pair
  • you can find Integers by using chips or making a number line with negative numbers and positive numbers.
  • To represent Positive or
Negative you can color them differently, With Red being Positive And blue being Negative.

Chapter 2 Multiplying Intergers
The sign rule:When you a even number of negative numbers, the Answer is always Positive
When you have an odd number of negative factors, the product is negative
* Remember that Usin
g number lines can also help you

Chapter 3 Dividing In
tegers:
Partative division: when knowing how many groups there is & finding how many items are within each of those groups making equal parts.

Chapter 4 Order of Operations with Intergers

      Final Percent Post

4.1 Representing Percents : When representing percents , there's many ways you can show your percent . The easiest way is through a 100 grid . Mostly because a percent is out of 100 .

Example : 80/100 . To represent that you draw a 100 grid and shade in 80 Squares .

4.2 Fractions , Decimals & Percents : This is when you use various ways to convert Percents to fractions or decimals . There are many ways you could do this . One way you could find percent is by Multiplying or Dividing a number by 100 . To find the percent out of 100 .

      Example : 30% of 100 . 30/100 = 0.3 0.3x100= 30

4.3 Percent of a number : Where you find a percent out of any number , It could be more than 100 or less that 1% .

      Example : 3/4% = 0.75 . 150% of $10 = $15.00

4.4 Combining Percents : This is where you add to a Percent . As in , adding more to the additional percent . Having more than the regular percentage .

      Example : Tax in Canada = 12% . If something cost $10.00 .

      10.00x1.12=$11.20

      Lara's Math Profile.

My name is Lara. I can like and dislike math at many times, the reason I like math is because it helps me in the real world. For some reasons i dislike math, the reasons i dislike math is because sometimes it makes me confused. Also because I'm not that kind of person to love math. In math last year we learned probability, integers, adding fractions, converting decimals into precents, graphs, mean, median, mode and much more.

Out of all that we covered last year i have to say that Converting decimals into precents was my favorite thing to do. I liked doing it last year because it involved money which is easier for me to do . However last year I had trouble doing Mean, Median and Mode. I had trouble on this last year because I get confused very easily with words and such that sound the same .

For myself to become successful grade 8 math student is to participate more and try to put hands up more if I have any questions for the teacher. Also, to review my math work everyday to have it fresh in my mind. Another way for me to become a successful student is to re-write my work from class. It is also a way i find to help myself study.

Last year in math we also did blog post, This post was my favorite post of all .I really liked this post because it was explaining one of my favorite chapters we covered in the math textbook. Also I made my layout really easy and organised . This year I'm hoping that we do many more post like these.
