Kevin's Math Profile

Hi, my name is Kevin Montalbo and I'm a grade 8 math student. Some people may ask me "Do I like math?" an answer to that would be sometimes because I may struggle in one part but i may have a lot easier time with others. One of the few things i like about math would be multiplication. In my opinion I really like multiplying and it's fun sometimes. But when I was younger I really hated multiplying I didn't even know my 3x tables! That's my reason to the question.

Last year I really liked studying algebraic equations, Pie formula's, and some fraction things. The algebraic equations were much more easier to me then the other units because I was really interested with the equations for example x2=10. It took me awhile to figure it out the first time but when time went on I started to understand these equations and started answering them easily. The unit that made me struggle SO HARD was the circle unit. And my gosh did i do really bad on it. We need lots of materials to do this like a geometry set and some other things. I could come prepared and be more attentive.

What i will do to be a successful math student is to actually study, maybe ask for some help, but most importantly do my homework. What i really want to do this year is to learn more about the algebraic equations and more about the pie formulas.

Last year I didn't do any blogging (i didn't really like it). But even so i wish to do more blogging this year and one thing I want to do on the blog is trying to blog what i learned about. I hope i do have fun with blogging.

Ryan's Math Profile

Hello, my name is Ryan and I am a grade 8 math student. If another person asked me if I like math, I would say that I like some parts of it. For example, I enjoy learning and solving problems with fractions, circles, equations, multiplication, and others. Although I dont't get 100% on all my tests, math is still a fun and interesting subject to learn about. In nursery, I remember we were doing subtraction with erasers. I liked this activity because the erasers had a soft feeling and they had smiley faces on them! I also knew what the difference was when my teacher would remove an amount of erasers from the pile. That is one reason why I enjoy math. It is simple and can relate to everyday situations.

Last year in grade 7, I really enjoyed solving bedmas problems, fractions, circle problems, equations, and converting values. The circle unit was pretty easy for me, because we just had to consider the formulas, and do the steps. However, I didn't like doing problems on the cartesian plane, because we had to draw too much and needed to much materials, and I kind of got lazy. I also didn't do well in solving patterns because I didn't understand how to write the formula for how "x" would equal "y", and it took me a long time to discover the pattern. I think that I struggled in some units last year because I gave up on it, got lazy, and didn't ask questions to see if my understanding was correct. So this year I will try to not get lazy.

To be a successful grade 8 math student, I will be sure to not get lazy, because I would do my work, and not ask people if I did it correctly. I would also contribute orally in class more often, to show that I am being cooperative in class discussions, and to help me understand more about each unit. I would want to learn more about square roots, and multi step equations. However, I would be willing to learn about anything that should be learned in later grades so that it would be easier for me when I get to that grade.

In grade 7, I contributed to creating scribeposts for my class. Here is part 1 of my post that I'm proud of, and this redirects you to the second part of my post. I talked about a part of the exam that we needed to review, and are proud of them, because it took me a long time and I thought I made it look organized and simple. I also thought that my pictures were neat, although some were pretty small. The light grey text at the bottom took me a long time also, because I had to think about all of the combonations of values you can convert. Grade 7 blogging, made me improve on explaining what I learned in that unit, and gave me and other students, opportunities to share our ideas, and questions that can get eachother thinking. I'll try to consider more links in my scribeposts, and visit websites that will help me with future units, and units that we are learning about now.

Tyler's Math Profile

Hi there my name is Tyler and I am a math student in Grade 8. I like math a lot and it is my favorite subject in school. One of my favorite math activities is when I was in grade 5 and my class did a Mars bar hunt with coordinets. My struggle area is probably circles. I just can't get used to them.
The unit I enjoyed learning about most in grade 7 was fractions.ome parts were new to me, like adding fractions with unlike denominators, then having to fine the common denominator. They were quite easy to understand. This year, I'm gonna try to focus on circles, and get the hang of it.
I want to do well on tests and study harder ! This year, I just want to learn new things to get ready for grade 9, because last year I only studied for exams.

I made one post last year and I say I could have done better. There was so much space and I wish i did better. This year I'm going to do a better job as a blogger.

Lara's Math Profile.

My name is Lara. I can like and dislike math at many times, the reason I like math is because it helps me in the real world. For some reasons i dislike math, the reasons i dislike math is because sometimes it makes me confused. Also because I'm not that kind of person to love math. In math last year we learned probability, integers, adding fractions, converting decimals into precents, graphs, mean, median, mode and much more.

Out of all that we covered last year i have to say that Converting decimals into precents was my favorite thing to do. I liked doing it last year because it involved money which is easier for me to do . However last year I had trouble doing Mean, Median and Mode. I had trouble on this last year because I get confused very easily with words and such that sound the same .

For myself to become successful grade 8 math student is to participate more and try to put hands up more if I have any questions for the teacher. Also, to review my math work everyday to have it fresh in my mind. Another way for me to become a successful student is to re-write my work from class. It is also a way i find to help myself study.

Last year in math we also did blog post, This post was my favorite post of all .I really liked this post because it was explaining one of my favorite chapters we covered in the math textbook. Also I made my layout really easy and organised . This year I'm hoping that we do many more post like these.

Melanie's Math Profile

Hey, my name is Melanie and I am in grade 8 math. If you were to ask me if I like math, I would honestly say no because it is not my best subject. Something that I struggle in is solving math problems but I would definitely like to improve. A math activity that i really enjoyed was when I was in grade 1 and we were learning how to add. To help us we used smarties and once we were done, we got to eat them!

The unit I enjoyed learning about most in grade 7 was fractions. To me, it was pretty easy to understand and follow so I feel I did pretty good in that unit. But there were also some things I struggled in such as ratios. I had a hard time using ratio tables especially when we weren't using friendly numbers. I also had a hard time in algebra because sometimes when solving equations, I would forget a step. To help me not struggle as much in class, I would like to be not as shy to approach the teacher and ask him for help. I could also study and review my notes more often.

This year, I will try my best to be a good math student. To do this, I will try to participate more in class and always pay attention. I would also like to get all assignments completed on time. There's nothing in particular that I would like to learn this year but I would like to learn many new things to help me prepare for next year and the years after.

Last year, we had to do blogs talking about what we learned about in class. My favourite post that I made was all about bisecting perpendicular lines. It explained what they were and how to make one. Blogging helped me become a better student because by either making a post or viewing a post, you get to review everything you learned in class that day. I think by doing computer activities such as playing games, it could help us understand the topic more but also it is a more fun way to learn. I really hope to be doing that this year. I would also like to continue blogging.

Allison's math profile .

I`m Allison and I can like/ dislike math at different times. The times I like math are when I understand what's happening, and what we're doing. I also like when we do different math activities. In class we learned a lot of this like probability, integers, adding fractions, converting decimals into precents, graphs, mean, median, mode and more. The assignments I liked were doing the blogs online, for what we learned that day to show other people and the textbook work, because after taking notes on the topic, we would do work, to learn more about it.

My favourite unit I learned about in grade 7 was fractions, because it was really easy to understand. Some parts were new to me, like adding fractions with unlike denominators, then having to fine the common denominator. I struggled a lot with the integers unit, because it just really confused me. This year, I'm gonna try to focus on integers, and get the hang of it.

So this year, for grade 8 I really want to do better than grade 7, and improve in my grades. I don't want to procrastinate at all. I want to do well on tests and study harder ! This year, I just want to learn new things to get ready for grade 9 .

This is my favourite post from grade 7 because, this was my first post to the blog, and because my classmates gave me feedback, and I improved throughout the year . Blogging for math class, helped me because when my classmates told me what I did good and what I could've done to make a better blog. I want to do well in blogging this year.

Nils' Math Profile

My name is Nils. I like math a lot because you get to play around with numbers and you have to think. One of the funnest things that happened in math class was in grade 7 when we were spinning a spinner to learn about probability. Everyone was cheering and trying to guess what colour it would land on. That is fun.

My favourite unit in grade 7 was integers because they were quite easy to understand. I had trouble with converting fractions into decimals and percents because sometimes I get mixed up with the numbers. This year I will try to ask more questions and study the textbook harder so I won't get mixed up.

It is now grade 8. I want to finish my homework and study hard for tests. This year I want to learn how to make a proper ratio and convert it to fractions, decimals, etc.

Here is my first blog post from grade 7. I liked this post because a lot of people thought I did a good job. I want to do a good job this year in blogging.
