Melanie Ilagan's Pay It Forward

Part one:
"Pay it Forward" is the idea that one person can make a difference by showing a simple act of kindness. This all started from the movie "Pay it Forward" where a seventh grader named Trevor was given the assignment to make a difference in the world. He thought of helping three people, then they would help another three and it would just keep going. He tried to do this many times, and though he thought he had failed, he actually affected many, many people. In the end, he died all because he tried to save someone from being bullied. Both this movie and project are very inspiring because they helped me open my eyes and realize how one simple act of kindness can bring joy into another person's life.

Part two:
For this project, I was in a group of four people: Kristel Aguason, Allison Manuel, Jocelle Garcia and myself. We decided that we wanted to help the less fortunate. To do this, we went to Superstore and around the school and collected donations which we would then give to Siloam Mission. However, we haven't yet brought it there. We probably will sometime this week. Anyways, in return for their kindness, we gave them a candy cane or chocolate. We did this from December 13 to 19



Part three:
I think our act of kindness went very, very well because we set a goal for ourselves of raising $100 and we exceeded that by over $100! In fact, we raised nearly $200! The people were actually proud of us for doing such a good thing towards the community. I even remember this one man saying "Wow, good job guys. Keep it up and good luck!" Some people even gave us suggestions such as to sing Christmas songs and to mention that we're going to give all the money to Siloam Mission and it made a difference. However, we didn't really ask the people to "Pay it Forward", we just mentioned "Pay it Forward" out loud a couple times but didn't ask them specifically. But I'm pretty sure we'll remember to say it once we bring all the proceeds to Siloam Mission. I felt really happy. We were even screaming and jumping in Superstore once we counted all the donations. It felt really good knowing that all the hard work and effort we put into the project was really worth it. I can't wait until we bring the money to Siloam Mission to see the smiles on their faces.

Part four:
I think the idea of "Paying it Forward" is important because it shows us how just one simple little act of kindness, whether it's saying thank you, handing out candy canes, or donating something to a charity can effect another person in one way or another. Also because I think that if we all learned how to "Pay it Forward" the world we live in today would be much more happier and peaceful. In my opinion, what we did will definitely make a difference towards the community and the people who rely on Siloam Mission because by doing what we did, they can finally have some warm meals, a place to stay and most importantly, happiness. This project really opened my eyes to see the effect someone can make on their community.

Nils' Pay It Forward

Part 1
Pay it forward is helping people without expecting to be helped back. If the people you helped help more people it is like a chain reaction that can get really big. In the movie "Pay It Forward" a boy named Trevor has a project where you can change the world. He decides to help three people. Then those three can help three more each and the number of people help can increase dramatically.

Part 2
My act of kindness was to write a letter to a Canadian soldier in Kabul, Afghanistan. I chose this activity because our armed forces our protecting our nation on foreign ground and I want to show appreciation for what our soldiers have done. I must be very hard to be in a country far from home and away from your family for a long time. This letter can tell a soldier that people in Canada care.





Part 3
It felt really good when I put that letter in the mailbox because it can encourage the soldier to continue to serve our country proudly. I didn't tell the soldier to pay it forward because they have already done it to the whole nation. The soldier is helping a lot more people than I ever could.

Part 4
The idea of Pay It Forward is very important to humanity because it can change lives and make the world a better place to live for everyone. Hopefully my letter can tell a soldier that Canadian citizens care about them and encourage them to continue to serve their country proudly.

Kevin's Pay It Forward

Pay it forward is a concept where one person ( I'll call him person A) helps another person (person B). In return for helping person B has to help others. Another way of "Paying it forward" is a group of people help other handful of people. An example of paying it forward would be when a person helps another person carry there groceries.

My pay it forward act of kindness was that me and a group of friends (Nils, Kyle Cass, Tyler, and I) were writing letters to Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. We chose this activity because we thought it would be nice to send letters to soldiers. Al

so soldiers get to see people really do care about them. We did our act of kindness on the 18th of December.

I think our act of kindness went well, I think they got the letters already. I felt really good about sending letters, it was also really fun talking about what the soldiers would think. I did not as the person to pay it forward because soldiers pay it forward with there own lives!

The idea of paying it forward is really important because if you thought about it, "Who would help the poor?" if none of us didn't want to give some of them money most of the would die. I do think our act of kindness had made of difference for the soldiers. I think it helped them think that this country is worth protecting.

Nikki's Pay it Forward

Part 1

"Pay it forward" is an act of kindness with nothing in return just because. Also a movie with a boy named Trevor helping three people and each one of those three people help three more.

Part 2

Karen and I made an act of kindness by giving away thank you cards and giving away candy canes saying merry Christmas and happy new year on them to people.

On the weekend we babysat my niece for my sister for free for 6 hours.
We also made ham sandwiches on Saturday and we went on main street near the salvation army to donate some money. While we were there we gave away about 30 sandwiches to the homeless people on the street. We also threw in pieces of deer jerky. I chose those activity's because I thought they were unique. Something different than other people.

Part 3

How did your act of kindness go?
In my opinion it went great because it made me feel better about myself.

What Happened?
We made people happy, and put a little joy on their day.

How did you feel?
I felt really great, it was such a big thing for the homeless but it was just joy for us.

How did the person or people react?
The homeless people smiled and said merry Christmas they also thanked us, and some of the people we gave cards to also smiled and my sister was very thankful because she felt good not having to worry about the baby.

Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?
Yes, they were written on the card and also no for the homeless.

How did they react to your request?
We did not get to see how they reacted because we didn't see them reading it.

Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important?
I think its important because the smallest things can change the world step by step.

Allison Manuel's Pay It Forward .

Part 1 :
Pay it forward, is doing something nice for 3 people. Those 3 people you have helped/ done something nice for will help another 3 people. It will branch out and the numbers of people you have helped gets bigger and bigger.

Part 2 :
For my Pay It Forward project, my group (Melanie Ilagan, Jocelle Garcia, Kristel Aguason and I), we decided to raise money for Siloam Mission, which is a charity for homeless people. Everyday at school we asked if people would like to donate money. As a little gift, we chose to give them a candy cane, as a little treat since Christmas is near . We chose this activity because as Christmas is coming, we wanted to give money for people who aren't as fortune as we are, to celebrate this holiday, have a place to sleep and have food. My group and I did our project, from Monday December 13, 2010 until Saturday December 18, 2010. Before we would leave to go home, we would record how much we earned that day.
On December 18, 2010, we went to Superstore and decided to fund raise money there. We stood near the entrance/ exit doors for where people were coming into and out of the store . We did really well, for only 1 and a half - 2 hours of work . A man that works at Superstore, had told us to do some singing, to get peoples attention, so once in a while, we would sing some carols .
Part 3:
From Monday, December 13 until Saturday, December 18, my group (Melanie Ilagan, Jocelle Garcia, Kristel Aguason and I) raised money each day at school. We told the staff and students it was an act of kindess to paying it forward. As a treat in return, we gave them candy canes. At the end of the day, we would count how much money we earned, and we'd record how much we got. That went on all school week. On December 15 (Wednesday) my group and I gathered at my house to call Superstore to ask for permission to fun money there. We originally planned to do it at Polo Park, but we weren't allowed because we could have gotten our money stolen. On December 18 (Saturday) we met up at my house around 11:30 am and finished some centers and coloured our poster. At 12:30 we left the house and my daddy dropped us off at Superstore on Sargent. We then informed the office we were here. We stood near the entrance and asked the people who were coming in/ leaving if they'd like to donate. Our words were, " Hi, would you like to donate to SIloam Mission? ". Sometime when we would tell them to "Pay it forward". After they'd ask what all this would do in the end. We explained how it was a project of showing an act of kindness, so we decided to raise money for charity. After the first half and hour we collected around $40.00 with the help of the people who decided to donate bills. Speaking of bills, there's one man we'd really like to acknowledge. This person just passed by us, when there was a big crowd. He dropped in a $20 bill. We thanked him, and the smile on our faces became bigger because we started off with doubts, not reaching our goal. But at the end when we counted our total, we were super happy. Anyways, after a while, we weren't doing as well as we started. People just walked by. Most people already donated, worked with the charity or donate to them already. People passed by and told us that we were doing an amazing job. This one man told us to keep it up. That meant a lo to us ! A man that worked at Superstore that was , you can say supervising us told us to sing Christmas carols. So we quietly sang, " All I want For Christmas Is You " and " Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" . We would've sang other songs but we didn't know the lyrics to bunch of songs. People came again and donated more and more money. As the coins dropped in one by one *cling cling* the smiles on our faces grew bigger, knowing that all the money we collected was going towards people who needed it more than we did. Once again, we started getting less and less people donating. The man told us it would be better if we emphasized Siloam Mission. We had an extra poster with us so we wrote, " All profits will go towards Siloam Mission". That caught the customers attention. After working for an hour and a half we counted our money and got a total of $183.00. We were super happy. We wanted to see if we were able to raise money at Wal Mart, since it was so close. We walked there and went on an adventure to "Antarctica" since it was winter/ snowy/ cold. On our way there, I saw a homeless man on the other side. I didn't know weather to feel happy or sad. I had a mixed emotion because I felt sad knowing he won't be spending Christmas with his family. But at the same time I felt happy because we had just raised money and will be donating it toward people less fortunate. Well, after my experience, I had really felt how one person can really make a difference. In this case 4 people. I don't think most people realize that the smallest things can change a whole lot .

Part 4:
The idea of Pay It Forward is important because it helps realize that one person can make a difference to a whole bunch of people.
I believe that my project did make a difference to homeless people, because once we donated that money, it has helped a couple people to have a meal and have a proper place to sleep for a couple nights.

* My group and I have not donated the money to Siloam Mission, but we Will soon :)
